Zeolites are microporous crystals that have been widely used in catalysis, separation, and adsorption processes owing to their unique properties, such as high surface area, controllable acidity, ion exchange capacity, and shape selectivity. SSZ-13 is a crystalline aluminosilicate material consisting of a chabazite framework type which exhibits tetrahedral alumina and silica bonded together in six member rings that form super cages. In this presentation, we will discuss the preparation SSZ-13 zeolites with tunable crystal sizes in two orders of magnitude using typical polyquat growth modifier polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDDAC) and trimethyladamantylammonium hydroxide (TMAda-OH) as organic structure directing agent (OSDA). Crystal sizes ranging from 0.2 μm to 20 μm are synthesized with various PDDAC concentrations, which confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The phase purity and crystallinity are confirmed by Powder Xray Diffraction (XRD) as well. Moreover, the synthesis time can be shortened using certain polymer concentrations. The mechanism of how the polyquat growth modifier affect the crystal nucleation and growth needs further investigation. 1. Kumar et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2015, 137(40), 13007-13017. 2.
