Abstract

Introduction. Educational institutions (e.g. public schools and teacher training programs) have played a major role in shaping the attitudes and beliefs of the youth in this nation. The heavy task of these institutions has been to prepare each generation to assume the obligations and responsibilities of adult life. In facilitating the progress of society from one of cultural singularism to one of cultural pluralism, public schools and teacher training programs must provide leadership for the development of individual commitment to a social system where individual worth and dignity are fundamental tenents. This provision means that the schools and colleges must allow their total educational process, educational content, and training of teachers to reflect a commitment to cultural pluralism. [...]
