Abstract
This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of techniques used in the systems design of computer generated television displays. It is a compendium of information scattered between many books and articles, with a substantial amount of knowledge gained by the author while employed as a computer and display engineer at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center. The thesis is oriented toward the display user, to help him specify his requirements and analyze the equipment available or proposed for his application. It also allows the system designer to understand the trade-offs and implications involved in deciding which device or techniques will be of most benefit to him. Information is presented to allow the display designer to converse intelligently with computer software personnel about the effects of the various options on programming and the operating system.
