Abstract
Due to low persistence and representation of Black males in engineering we conducted a study that to try to help increase the amount of Black male engineering graduate students. Therefore we interviewed Black male engineering faculty members at Minority Serving Institutions to understand how they obtained their degrees. Once we had an understanding of the paths that these men took to obtain their advanced engineering degrees we want to used this knowledge to try to help along future Black graduate engineering students. Ultimately, this will allow for more Black students to persist in engineering and will help to alleviate the shortage of engineers that the US workforce is experiencing.
