Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a discriminant analysis model to determine which descriptive variables of the student population could be used at Pan American University as admission criteria to minimize student attrition without denying an educational opportunity to those students who can achieve. Since Pan American University has an open admission policy for the undergraduate programs and all students with a secondary education are admitted, a six-year longitudinal study of a beginning freshman class was used to establish an evaluation model to determine the effects of descriptive admission variables on the educational outcomes of the students.
