Abstract
Discrete event-oriented simulation techniques have been successfully employed for investigating the behavior of contemporary computer systems. The time and skill required for simulation studies act as deterrents for conducting these studies. A need for a tool that would permit construction of simulation models in a relatively short time can hardly be over-emphasized. This dissertation presents a generalized model for simulating computer systems. In order to ease as well as encourage the use of the generalized model, a language interface has been developed. The various language elements reflect the phraseology in use by those involved in the implementation of computer systems. The language provides the facilities to model the hardware, software and job-load characteristics of the computer system to be simulated. A complete description of the language along with a few example simulations are presented in this dissertation.
