dc.description.abstractSubtotal (99%) pancreatectomy of adult single comb white leghorn (SCWL) chickens was used as a technique to investigate and assess the importance of the pancreas and its endocrine role in the control of avian carbohydrate metabolism. Body weight, food intake, plasma glucose, and plasma and pancreatic (splenic lobe) insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide (APP) and somatostatin (SRIF) were measured after selective (99%) extirpation of the dorsal, ventral and third pancreatic lobes.
