In this report, this report, the effects of the intravenous injections of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems of the dog have been investigated. This study also includes a test of the hypothesis that the initial hypernea elicited by the injection of 5-hydroxytryptamine produced a state of acapnia which in turn is responsible for the subsequent period of apnea.
