The second objective was to present a recommended list of the major duties for persons serving as directors of instruction based on the ratings given by superintendents, directors of instruction, and teachers contacted. Procedures. The survey method was employed to secure the information desired. The data used in this investigation were obtained from questionnaires sent to superintendents and directors of Instruction of all Texas school districts that had an average daily attendance of 2,500 or more for 1963-1964, as listed in the directory of the Texas Education Agency. Superintendents were requested to send the names and addresses of a fourth-grade classroom teacher, a seventh grade mathematics teacher, and a high school English teacher in order to obtain a sampling of teacher opinions. Questionnaires were then mailed to these teachers as their names were returned.
