The secondary purpose of the study was to determine the interaction effects of the selected variables and locus of control. The independent variable was a Multidimensional Student Development Instructional Model (MSDIM) and the dependent variable was the subjects1 External scores on the Opinion Scale (Kleiber, Valdman, & Menaker, 1973). The External (E) subscale includes the 23 External items of the Internal/External Locus of Control Scale (Rotter, 1966). The selected variables were sex and instructor. The research question was: Does participation in a Multidimensional Student Development Instructional Model (MSDIM) have an impact on locus of control of minority college freshmen? If so, does it interact with sex of student or instructor? The sample consisted of 96 first semester college freshmen enrolled at Texas Southern University with equal or near equal sex distribution. The students were randomly selected from nine sections of the MSDIM course. Each student was randomly selected for testing and assigned to a treatment condition.
