Abstract

Volatile metabolites have been analyzed in a variety of samples including serum, urine, saliva, and biological tissues. The samples were prepared for analysis with a highly efficient transevaporator extraction procedure and with a newly developed modified headspace method. In the first technique the volatiles are extracted and concentrated on glass beads by evaporation of excess solvent. The second method involves the dynamic stripping of the volatiles from their aqueous matrix with trapping on Tenax backed with Spherocarb.
