Abstract
A ternary communication system is shown to provide better performance than similar binary or quadraphase systems by as much as 0.7 dB of SNR. The effect of realizable filters in the channel is studied by simulating the system numerically. Systems utilizing first- and second-order Butterworth filters with BT products of 1.0 and 1.5 are studied and corresponding performance curves are plotted.
