Abstract

A correction technique has been derived that provides a simple and accurate method of determination of the displacement thickness on a slender conical surface. The correction was derived from the equation for the displacement thickness for conical flow and is applied to the displacement thickness derived by means of the ordinary Mangler transform from flat plate theory. The technique results in a value within plotting accuracy of the actual displacement thickness for the range of δ*/r[subscript o] from zero to six, whereas the δ*m/r[subscript o] derived in the Mangler sense produces a 50% error at a ratio of six. This correction technique provides a very useful tool for use in manual flow calculations.
