Abstract

Statistical databases are databases where users are permitted access to certain statistics (e.g., average, maximum, minimum, etc.), but they are not supposed to gain access to individual database items. Unfortunately, in many schemes designed to achieve this, users can infer from legal queries the values of individual items. Consequently inference control is one of the most important issues in statistical database design. The method of randomizing permits statistical access to such databases which is provably secure under certain conditions. In this thesis we implement the method on a realistic relational database to meet these conditions.
