Abstract
The splines covered in this thesis are piecewise polynomials. We pass a set of polynomials through the points to which the spline is to be fit. These polynomials are a best approximation in the sense of Sard. [150] In Chapter 1 the equations for the cubic spline coefficients are developed. Several special cashes of nonperiodic end conditions are discussed. In Chapter 2 the periodic end condition is covered. Chapter 3 is a worked out example. Chapter 4 contains a computer program and sample output. Appended to the bibliography is a cross reference by subject matter.
