Abstract
This thesis describes the design, development, and performance of an electronic system for the detection of sharp, epilepsy-related aperiodic waves (abnormal spikes) in one channel of scalp EEG data. First, a discussion of parameters used to quantify such waveforms is presented. Then, a detection technique is developed. Finally, the performance of the detection system is evaluated at real time. A description of an interface of the detection system to a digital minicomputer for high speed detection is also presented.
