Abstract
Statement of the Problem. The purpose of this study was to seek out information about the role of Henry Rosenberg, Galveston businessman and philanthropist, in order that his contribution to Texas history can be evaluated. In the fifty years during which Henry Rosenberg lived in Galveston, he saw the city grow from a pioneer harbor town to a city having the distinction of being the major Gulf port in Texas and the state's chief banking center. This thesis has been written in the desire to present more effectively a complete historical discussion of the events which coincided in the life of a Texas builder with the growth of this important Texas community.
