Abstract
The attenuation response to periodic CONSTRICTIVE forces applied to the cylindrical boundary of an optical fiber has been measured. The fiber used is a sensor fiber with a large coupling wavelength and enhanced sensitivity to microdistortion forces. Theoretical calculations are compared with the experimental results; good agreement is observed and an enhanced effect is obtained when compared to microbending experiments.
