Abstract
Fostering a sustainable society requires a multidisciplinary and wholistic approach that utilizes the expertise from a mixture of the engineering principles, and the natural and social sciences. The focus of this research was to analyze contemporary methodology of how countries reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGe) internationally. Our findings were that the only useful methodology in reducing emissions are: reduction through an international emissions trading system (ETS) or other international economically-based systems, and reductions through independent corporation’s decisions led by the consumer. Both of these methods, while dependent on cooperation of energy and manufacturing corporations, are ultimately led by the habits of the consumer and the mass media.
