Abstract
An analysis of the pressure behavior of a well producing at a constant reservoir rate from a closed reservoir has been made. The study has been restricted to single phase flow through homogeneous isotropic media. The purpose of the analysis was to investigate the possibility of using data obtained from the Reservoir Limit Test to determine the size and the shape of a closed reservoir and the location of the well within it. The method of images has been used to obtain the draw down and pressure decline measurements, at any given time, for a number of reservoirs of varying shapes and sizes each containing a single producing well at a fixed position. Calculations determining the reservoir constants, the reservoir area the reservoir shape and the location of the well within the reservoir have been made. The calculation of the reservoir shape and the location of the well within the reservoir is based on the reservoir Shape Factor derived in this thesis. A given Shape Factor will apply to a reservoir of a particular shape with a well located at a given point within the reservoir. An approximate distance to the closest barrier or barriers is also determined to confirm the location of the well within the reservoir. A chart has been prepared correlating the Shape Factor, Cj with the shape of the reservoir and the position of the well within it.
