Abstract

Systematic and genetic analysis of 8 species of Palaemonetes in Texas uses starch-gel electrophoresis. The relation of genetic differentiation with environmental patchiness and heterozygosity with habitat heterogeneity is examined. Phylogenetic analysis includes phenetic and cladistic methods, and the molecular clock hypothesis is used for a temporal measure. The results show that shrimp from patchy environments have the highest genetic differentiation, while those from uniform environments have much less. [...]
