Abstract

Computer simulation and digital signal processing have become powerful tools in seismic prospecting in recent years. The methods, based on numerical analysis of differential equations, are being thoroughly developed. In this thesis two algorithms using the phase shift plus interpolation method for solving the two-dimensional, constant-density, variable-velocity, acoustic wave equation, forward modeling for time-section computer simulation and wave equation migration for seismic data processing, have been developed. The programs have been implemented on a VAX 11/780 with a FPS-IOO array processor. The algorithms have been tested with synthetic seismic sections and physical model tank data, and also have been compared with the results from other methods.
