Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship true impact of theory and practice in the learning of journalistic genres. This was was conducted in the School of Journalism of the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Two groups were compared. Both groups received the same theoretic knowledge about the structures of journalistic genres but group A also did practice work on a newspaper that was edited at the University for citywide circulation. The newspaper has professional characteristics, surpassing the quality of a typical university paper. Members of both groups were given 3 assignments; each one on the journalistic structures and genres. These assignments were judged on their content and their journalistic format. [...]
