Abstract

Nucleoside analogs have been used to compare the polymerase and exonuclease functions of an intact DNA-dependent DNA polymerase with products obtained after the enzyme was subjected to proteolysis. The purpose of this investigation was to ascertain a possible mode of action produced by these analogs on the active center. It is concluded that the various effects produced by these analogs are due to conformational changes of the enzyme.
