dc.description.abstractThe Purpose. The purpose was to determine if there was a relationship between children's trends in mathematical achievement and their attitudes toward mathematics and toward certain environmental factors. Procedures. Complete data were collected on a sample size of 150 sixth graders from the Lamar Consolidated School District, Fort Bend County, Texas. Two attitude scales were administered. Data collected from school files were SRA Achievement Series scores for mathematics for the years 1969, 1971, and 1973, I.Q. scores, and sex. Residual Scores were calculated for the mathematical achievement measures; factor scores were calculated for all measures of attitudes. A set of thirty-two variables were subjected to a canonical correlation analysis. [...]
