Abstract
A continuous flow physical adsorption system has been built. The instrument was used to determine the adsorption isotherms of nitrogen or krypton on various porous samples using helium as the carrier gas. This data was used to determine the BET surface area as well as the pore size distribution of the samples. A series of experiments led to an accurate and reproducible determination of the surface area and pore size distribution of alumina samples. Attempts to measure the very sipall surface area of platinum gauzes led to unsatisfactory results, probably due to the presence of traces of water vapors in the carrier stream.
