A stochastic approximation algorithm for estimating fixed points of a self map of a compact, convex subset of Rp is presented. Sufficient conditions for the almost sure convergence of the algorithm are given. The algorithm is then applied to the statistical problem of obtaining estimates of the proportions in a mixture density.
