Abstract

Two objectives defined the purpose of this study. 1. The first objective was to identify those systematic instructional design principles and processes that instructional design experts, software reviewers, and software design experts agree are applicable in the development of educational courseware for the microcomputer. 2. The second objective was to determine if the identified instructional design principles and processes made a difference in the instructional value of computer courseware. Ten tentative psychological and pedagogical principles, along with five computer software characteristics, were identified through a literature search. These variables were incorporated in a questionnaire which sought to establish if these principles were considered necessary for the design of instructional computer courseware. The questionnaire was sent to a sample of instructional design experts, software reviewers, and software designers. Sixty responses approved all the principles for use in the design of instructional courseware. [...]
