Abstract

The validity of the Coulomb-Mohr failure criterion is evaluated by a new technique employing notched prismatic specimens. While the Mohr envelope construction is found to be an accurate predictor of the failure geometry of cement specimens, the construction fails to predict the behavior of a natural rock material.
