dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the investigation is to determine the fluxionality in (n4-C8H12)Fe(C0)3 and (n4-C7H8)Cr(C0)4 using the Fourier transform spectrometer. We develop models for two, three and four site exchange applicable in determining the mechanism of exchange in fluxional penta-coordinate organometallic compounds using selective excitation. Selective excitation has been accurately applied experimentally and theoretically and we present an approach which explains the problems of the technique. We apply selective excitation and spin saturation transfer using a Varian FT-80 and XL-1OO Fourier transform spectrometers using 13C and 1H spectrometery. [...]
