dc.description.abstractData security, consistency, and integrity are important factors in the evaluation of a Database Management System. The thesis concentrates on the design and implementation of Data Definition Language, Data Manipulation Language, Concurrency control and Security for the REQUEST DBMS. General concepts of a database system and its security mechanisms are discussed. User-friendly screen oriented user interfaces together with the required concurrency control are designed and implemented. A Grant/Revoke mechanism is employed to provide the necessary Access Control. The facilities designed and implemented in this thesis facilitate the data entry, improve data availability and help keep the database safe.
