An experimental filtration study of slurries of Solka Floc B.71.200 was conducted under conditions of constant rate operation. Local specific resistances calculated from average values obtained from filtration data were correlated with local specific resistances calculated from compression-permeability testing. The results of the comparison showed significant discrepancies between resistances obtained In constant rate filtration and the compression-permeability cell. Factors responsible for the deviations were discussed and analyzed. An experimental study of slurries of a mixture of Standard Super-Cel 40% and kaolin 60% by weight under conditions of variable-pressure variable-rate operation was conducted. Results showed that particle characteristics changed during filtration as the slurry recirculated in the system. The effect of time of agitation and recirculation on average specific resistance was larger than the effect of concentration of slurry.
