Simulation of the rail transportation system for export grain
The rail transportation system of export grain from inland elevators to the four port elevators at the Port of Houston is studied. The model of the system was prepared following numerous field trips and interviews with railroad and elevator personnel. The methodology used in studying the efficiency of the system is the development of a discrete stochastic simulation model which is programmed in GPSS (General Purpose Simulate System). The model is used to simulate the existing system and several modifications to the existing system.
