Abstract

The magnetization of thirteen dispersed nickel catalyst samples was measured for magnetic field strengths in the 0 to 90,000 oersted range. Measurements were made in this range to better estimate the saturation magnetization of the dispersed systems and to obtain the low and high magnetic field strength average crystallite sizes as a means of measuring the dispersion of the nickel. Methods for determining the average crystallite sizes and crystallite size distributions are discussed. Two measures of dispersion are presented and two methods proposed and tested for approximating crystallite size distributions from the magnetic data. One of the methods was used to approximate the crystallite size distributions of several of the dispersed nickel catalysts.
