Abstract

As the world searches for cleaner energy in the name of decarbonization, Argentina's Vaca Muerta shale play can offer the "transition fuel" needed to bolster this worldwide project. Beneath the surface in the province of Neuquen houses 308 TCF of natural gas in addition to IMO 2020 compliant crude oil. What stands in the way is Argentina's historic and looming nationalistic administration warding off potential investors in addition to its current economic crisis. The scope of this project is to identify Argentina's opportunities and challenges in extracting such resources.
