Abstract

Digital quadriphase modulation perturbed by narrowband noise is analyzed. A technique for calculating the probability of error for optimum detection of binary signals in the presence of white Gaussian noise is reviewed. Subsequently this technique is used to derive the probability of error for three different system conditions: ideal demodulation with exact quadrature signals, ideal demodulation with non-quadrature signals with constant phase error, and imperfect demodulation with non-quadrature signals with random phase errors. These effects are shown through a number of performance curves.
