Abstract

The minimal organic requirements for Physarum flavicomum variety 1 and P. polycephalum have been determined. The minimal medium for these organisms includes salts, trace elements, glucose, biotin, thiamine, methionine, glycine, arginine, and hematin. The only absolute requirements are biotin, thiamine, and hematin. Methionine could be replaced with homocysteine, glycine with serine, and arginine with leucine or valine. The optimum pH for P. flavicomum was 4.1, whereas P. polycephalum grew at 4.1 and 5.3. [...]
