dc.description.abstractThe subject of this thesis is to design an AP system which can automate most parts of the programming process in a user friendly environment. Since human programmers seem to know a lot about programming, one way to build the AP system is to simulate the programming process performed by these people. To make such knowledge of programming precise enough to be used effectively by a machine, we have developed a program structure classification approach to encode part of this knowledge in some machine-usable form. Based on the pre-defined program structure modules, the automatic program generation and transformation system was implemented on the VAX-11/780.
