Abstract

This paper is developed so as to present acetonitrile as a non - aquaeous solvent. All the available material pertaining to this subject is presented here. All the available material pertaining to this subject is presented here. The experiemntal work carried out in this laboratory is also presented. The following experimental determinations have been made: 1. Vapor pressure - temperature relations 2. Ebullioscopic constant 3. Solubility of organic compounds 4. Solubility of inorganic compounds 5. Reaction of metals with HCl solution 6. Identification of compound formed with HCl at the boiling point of acetonitrile 7. Indicator colors in acidic and basic solutions 8. Freezing point (Supplement) 9. Cryoscopic constant (Supplement). The latent heat of vaporization and the latent heat of fusion have been calcuated from the obtained data. A procedure is outlined for the volumetric determination of chlorine in an acetonitrile system.
