Abstract
Efforts have been made to compile a list of all medications which contain carbohydrates to prevent their use in galactosemic patients. Help was sought from colleagues in the field of pediatric pharmacy and through the available literature. Several data collection methods were attempted. The most efficient method was found to be a letter and a questionnaire. In 1975, 79 companies were contacted requesting data. Two years after the initial data was collected 67 of the original companies were again approached for updated information on drug constituents of their products. The results of the study yielded: 1) An effective methodology for collection of data from pharmaceutical manufacturers for dissemination to the medical community. 2) A compilation of pharmaceutical products containing carbohydrates.
