dc.description.abstractAt pion energies near the 3,3 resonance pion-nucleus excitation functions ejchibit a shape similar to the pion-nucleon interaction. On the other hand the ratio of [pi][raised +] to [pi][raised -] reaction cross sections do not exhibit the properties of the pion-nucleon interaction. This is an indication that the pion-nucleus reactions cannot be treated as quasifree interactions, but that the effect of the nucleons bound within the nucleus is quite strong. In order to obtain more information, a measurement of [pi][raised +] reaction cross sections at energies of 134, 161, 177 and 200 MeV have been made. These were measured by techniques of activation analysis for the elements C, Zn, F, and Cu.
