dc.description.abstractThis study was undertaken to provide information relating to the vocational-technical education opportunities available to the youth enrolled in the high schools in Galveston County, Texas, during the 1967-1968 school year. Data were obtained from the nine independent school districts and from 2,077 twelfth-grade pupils, which represented 77-5 percent of the reported enrollment. The school districts reported 3,355 boys and 5,120 girls enrolled in forty-two vocational-technical education courses. The courses with the highest enrollment were: Typing I, Homemaking I, Typing II, Homemaking II, and Bookkeeping I. The districts offered instruction in the following vocational programs: (1) Vocational Agricultural Education, (2) Vocational Home Economics Education, (5) Vocational Distributive Education, (4) Vocational Industrial Education, and (5) Vocational Office Education. Instruction in Vocational Technical Education was not offered. The number of programs offered by the districts may be summarized as follows: one district offered four programs; three districts offered three programs; two districts offered two programs; and three districts offered only one program. The instruction was concentrated in the programs of agriculture, home economics, and distributive education. The number of credits available varied with the districts and ranged from two in vocational agriculture to six in vocational distributive education and vocational industrial education. [...]
