Abstract

One of the most general methods for solving ordinary differential equations consists in obtaining a series solution in either ascending or descending powers of the independent variable. In some cases, such a solution provides the complete answer to the physical problem represented by the differential equation. Some particular differential equations of great importance, which are of frequent occurrence in practice, are the Hypergeometric, Confluent Hypergeometric, Legendre's, Bessel's, Hermite's, and Laguerre's equations.
