dc.description.abstractThe Medieval assimilation of pagan myth and ritual was a Christianizing process. Following the leads of St. Paul and early Church Fathers such as Augustine, medieval thinkers saw all human events as leading up to the foreshadowing the reconciliatino between God and man represented in the life of Christ. The pagan gods were commonly taken as the types, or prefigurations, of some persons of the divine Trinity. Saturn, once the ruler of a primal paradise, might be associated with God the Father.
