Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if any superiority exists in the programmed learning method of instruction as compared to the traditional method of instruction by (1) selecting a group of students with whom the programmed learning method was used, (2) selecting a comparable group of students with whom the traditional method was used, and (3) comparing the results of the academic achievement of the two groups. The study was organized in such a manner that this comparison could be made not only of the groups as a unit but also of the various levels of ability. To make the comparisons of the levels of ability the students in the two groups were ranked according to their scores on the Otis Intelligence Test and the Differential Aptitude Test and then divided into quartiles of ability.
