dc.description.abstractThis thesis presents a class of methods for solving nonlinear least squares problems. A comprehensive study of the algorithms and related mathematical literature was undertaken and formed the subsequent development, application, and in two of the methods, modifications of the methods. Most of the theoretical work is developed. Computer programs were written to test the performance of the methods and the modifications mentioned. Some comparisons are made with results reported in the literature.
