Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was to examine a group of forty-three heroin users, emphasizing a comparison between those whose use is only occasional with those whose use has led to addiction. The theoretical approach used was based on the work of Travis Hirschi concerning a person's bonds to the conventional society. It was felt that these bonds could enable a person to control or limit his involvement in deviant behavior, so as to avoid becoming totally enmeshed in a deviant lifestyle.
