Abstract
A theoretical investigation of film boiling over a horizontal plate is presented. An objective of this investigation is to study the role of rapid steam formation as a pressure producing mechanism in confined systems. By applying Hamill and Bankoff's exact solution of film growth over a flat plate and an iteration computer technique to the problem, a solution was obtained. A comparison of the iteration-method results to Hamill and Bankoff's results is presented. It was found that the results of this iterative pressure-dependent calculation agreed qualitatively with the results of Hamill and Bankoff, and Baker and Ivins. The results were also compatible with the physical restraints of the natural phenomenon.
