Abstract

Growth and development of serial navigation within the last few years hae made additional demands upon the navigator. He must now have increased technical knowledge of electronic aids. High speed, extended range, and long flights increase both physical and mental strain. Disposition, attitude, judgment and nervous stability are directly affected. Necessarily, navigation curricula and training have changed, both in content and empasis. Pressure of the imprtance of the new demands and changes, it was felt that the selection of navigation candidates was worthy of further serious study. The purpose of this study was to find the relationship between certain psychological test scores and several criteria, to note which tests or factors might be useful in the selection of navigation candidates and instructors, and to evaluate formal education in the light of both tests and other criteria.
