AstroPod: A Personal HoloDeck for Space

AstroPod envisions an easily deployable virtual reality pod—a 360 degree spherical surface for projection-based fully immersive virtual reality experiences—that can transform the multi-sensory environment of an individual astronaut into virtually anywhere imaginable. This could act as a safe haven from a cluttered crew cabin or space habitat on the Moon or Mars, to help astronauts unwind and entertain themselves. This thesis describes the pre-design research, design process, design features, prototyping, fabrication, testing process and future applications for the AstroPod.
